Traditional model of cooperation
The traditional model of a partnership starts with defining a business need, preparing an RFP, choosing a supplier, and signing a contract. After that, the project begins, and if it could have been implemented in isolation, it would probably follow the plan, deliver the expected results and bring satisfaction to both parties – the vendor and the client. But the reality is far from perfect. Each project is exposed to a continually changing business environment – a new product from the competition, poorly estimated infrastructure needs, or a change in requirements. Forces that put pressure on the project result in a growing number of changes outside the scope (Change Requests), which creates additional costs, project delays, and changes of go-live. The value of the project appears later than planned, and due to increased costs, it is smaller than expected. In such a case, it’s hard to talk about satisfaction.
Future-proof vendor cooperation model – How can we make it better?
The need for a better RFP alternative and more flexibility created an agile project methodology. Although agile is a flexible mechanism of adapting to change, by itself, it does not motivate the vendor to optimise costs and act in the best interest of the client. The company’s goal is to provide solutions that meet the changing needs of customers, and the supplier’s goal is to complete the project as defined, on time, and within the budget. These two goals are often contradictory.
Companies that become future-proof are the ones that can build partnerships based on a common goal with suppliers. How should such a partnership look? What cooperation model they should use? Is there a better RFP alternative? What are the necessary conditions – both on the supplier’s and the customer’s side? What results can be achieved?
On January 20th, during the keynote presentation at Digital Transformation Middle East in Dubai, Krzysztof Goworek, our Chief Innovation Officer, together with Hasan Al Bitar, presented the history of cooperation between TUATARA and Omantel, that is based on such a model. You can read more about our approach on the TM Forum blog.
The successful partnership of the future
We received much appreciation after the presentation at TM Forum in Dubai.
You need to draw it [the partnership] in a way that is strategic to both ends, so they understand that it is not just a one-time job, but rather a long-term partnership. Hasan al Bitar
General Manager of Digital Services Division at Omantel
Recently, as a result of our valuable partnerships, built as an RFP alternative, we have updated Omantel’s mobile app. Enabling lifestyle through modern, transformed digital channels and bringing Omantel closer to its customers is our shared goal. And we are on a good path – our app ranked first in Oman App Store! It also received very positive feedback from users.
We can’t wait to see where our cooperation is going to take us further. Right now we can promise you that we’re not going to rest on the laurels of our success!
